What RTP actually measures
RTP means return to player. It is a theoretical percentage calculated across a very large number of game rounds under defined rules. A listed 96% RTP describes an average return of SGD 96 for every SGD 100 wagered across the modelled long run; it does not mean an individual depositing or wagering SGD 100 will receive SGD 96.
Short sessions can finish far above or below the published percentage. RTP therefore belongs in a comparison checklist, but it cannot remove randomness or predict a personal result.
99% RTP vs 96% RTP: what the difference means
In the same simplified long-run model, 99% RTP corresponds to a 1% theoretical house edge while 96% RTP corresponds to 4%. The gap is three percentage points across a very large number of modelled rounds—not a promise that one short session returns three dollars more for every SGD 100 wagered.
Compare only the exact game version and rules. Volatility, stake range, optional features and the number of rounds can make personal outcomes differ sharply from either theoretical percentage.
- 99% RTP = 1% theoretical house edge
- 96% RTP = 4% theoretical house edge
- The difference is meaningful only as long-run mathematics
RTP and house edge
For a simple percentage comparison, house edge is the mathematical complement of RTP. A theoretical RTP of 96% corresponds to a 4% house edge before considering any separate rules or features.
This relationship explains the long-run model only. It is not a timetable for losses, a guarantee of session length or evidence that one result is due.
- 96% RTP = 4% theoretical house edge
- 95% RTP = 5% theoretical house edge
- Neither figure predicts a short session
Why volatility still matters
Two games can publish similar RTP values and still feel very different because volatility describes the spread and frequency of outcomes. A higher-volatility title may concentrate more of its theoretical return in less frequent outcomes, while a lower-volatility title may distribute outcomes differently.
Read RTP together with the game rules, volatility information, feature structure and stake range. Do not treat either RTP or volatility as a strategy for guaranteed returns.
A practical RTP checklist
- Open the current game information or paytable
- Confirm the RTP applies to the exact game version
- Check whether optional features change the stated figure
- Compare volatility and stake range separately
- Set a fixed entertainment limit before play

RTP FAQ
Does 96% RTP guarantee SGD 96 back from SGD 100?+
No. It is a theoretical long-run average, not a session promise.
Is the highest RTP always the best choice?+
No single percentage determines suitability. Rules, volatility, stake range and personal limits also matter.
Can the same title have different RTP versions?+
Some providers may offer configurations or versions with different published figures. Check the current in-game information.
